Welcome to Week #3: tonight we bowl Cheryl Haire and the Adjustables. They have the high scratch game so far this year, and are a force to be reckoned with. Will we be able to build on last weeks 6-2 score. Let's find out....

Poll Question
Quote of the Week:
| 8/21 | From the ABC Bowling Magazine, we have 60 year old first time bowler Bill Peace who bowling for the first time had these things to say: " I started of with a 133 average that grew to 191 in four months ..... I really don't see what the fuss is about: I practice, I advance my knowledge, I hit my mark most of the time." "When I take lunch I skip the food and bowl three games" "... some (bowlers) are in disbelief, other competitors are just angry." (editors note: I really hate Bill, I hope all the leagues he bowls in hate him too. Die Bill Die!!!!) |
| 8/28 | " The older people have better water retention! " Terry Schmidt. |
| 9/4 | " Get your head out of your feet" Bob Emerson (HUH?????) |
| 9/11 | " Terry swore, so that makes her a bad girl, so my swearing must make me a bitch" Cheryl "That must make me a whore!" Paul |
Bob's Name-o-the-week:
| For 9/18: | "The Craw": I forgot about this on the 11th, so we'll recycle this name for the 18th. |
Game #1
Terry starts off the night with a credible 122. It's more than her blind, so you done good! Cheryl has one of those games, and rolls a stinky 94. We have about 40 pin lead. I have a up and down game that ends on a good note with a score of 169. My opponent matches me, so they cut into our lead by about 10. Deb is about 10 under average with a 126, but matches the blind. It all comes down to the anchors. Bob rolls a half decent 176, just slightly under average, while John has an on average 173. They chop off a pin or two, but we take the first game by 27 pins.
Deb pointed out an interesting factoid - we all marked in the 10th frame. Excellent job all!
Game #2
Terry has an excellent 159, while Cheryl fights back with a 128, an improvement on game #1, but it still gives us a 45 pin lead. I have my best game of the year so far, rolling 6 strikes at one point garnering a 223. Tom fights back with an excellent 203, so we only gained about 10 pins. Deb gives us another great game this string with a 157, which gives us another 30 pins on our lead. Bob has an above average game while John rolls another 173. We took this game by 90 pins.
Another tidbit thanks to Deb - in this game we were all over 200 with handicap.
Game #3
Everyone's getting a bit tired, so game #3 will be a bit anti climactic. Terry starts the game off rolling a 112. I have another decent game, but no where near game #2, rolling a 177. Deb gets close to her average with 130, and Bob finishes off the string with his worst game in a while - a 142. For the Adjustables Cheryl starts things off with a 116, then Tom pitches in a 144 and John has a 140. I was the only bowler to be over average that game - scary! We didn't do terribly well that game, but neither did the Adjustables. We took this game by 30, and the series by 150.
Bowling Oddity of the week:
We have a double oddity. The Missing Sox known for making good use of their handicap are in first place in 'team high scratch.' Last week the high score was a 675. This week the SeaDogs rolled a 689, but the Missing Sox fired an astounding 723! Part two of the oddity is that Paul is in first place in the category High Game Scratch with a 223 (Big Bad Bob is second with a 221.)
Jackpot Status:
| The 4-6-7-10 | Nobody left this leave in week #3. The jackpot is still at $4 |
| The 7-10 | The memory fails. Someone left this leave. The jackpot is now $2 |
Key Bowling Stat (or maybe not so key):
| Bowler | 7 pin left / converted | 10 pin left / converted | 5 pin left / converted | Splits left / converted |
| Terry | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 / 0 |
| Paul | 9 / 4 | 5 / 4 | 5 / 5 | 12 / 0 |
| Deb | 0 / 0 | 0 / 1 | 5 / 1 | 2 / 0 |
| Bob | 5 / 3 | 0 / 0 | 2 / 2 | 6 / 1 |
Our Averages for the past weeks:
Epilogue:
I can actually use the same quote as last week. "We came we saw, we kicked some butt." But it applies even more so this week. It looked like we were in for a long night when Tom, and John started striking, but we sucked it up. Pushed forward, and kept the pressure on while taking all eight points tonight. Next week we face the LaneBlazers, so lets hope our luck lasts.
Medals:
| Gold | Paul Sluckis | All things considered, a really good night. I had three games above average, with a high game of 223, which for the moment is the league high SCRATCH game. I was 30 pins over average, recording a series of 569 |
| Silver | Terry Schmidt | Terry and Deb tied for silver medal status. Their stats and games in general were identical. Terry had an above average second game and two slightly under average games. Her 393 series was exactly on average. |
| Silver | Deb Pelley | Deb had an above average second game and two slightly under average games. Her 413 series was exactly on average. |
| Papier-mâché | Bob Emerson | Had an up an down night. Had a first game just under average, an above average second game, and a forgettable last game of 142. He eeked out a 500 series with a 502 series, and was 7 pins under average |
MVP Voting Totals:
| Bob is in the lead with 11 points, I vaulted into second with 9 points. Deb is next with 8, followed by Terry with 6. |
Gold Medal - 5 pts, Silver - 3 pts, Bronze - 2pts, Papier-mâché - 1pt
